A 4th axis CNC rotary table adds controlled A-axis positioning to a machining center. It can rotate a workpiece to programmed angles for drilling, milling, side machining, bolt-circle patterns and machining several faces in one setup.
For an existing 3-axis CNC machine, a rotary table can be integrated as a native OEM axis or operated through an external 4th axis controller. The external approach is commonly evaluated when fixed-angle indexing is sufficient and a complete OEM servo upgrade would be unnecessarily expensive.
A larger table is not automatically the correct choice. The complete system should be selected from the workpiece, cutting load, required angles and machine interface. Load includes weight, overhung distance and cutting force. Positioning accuracy, repeatability and brake holding capacity must be evaluated together.
